All About Pomskies

About Pomskies

Our Pomskies are the perfect balance of beauty, intelligence, and affection. Playful, loving, and delightfully cuddly, they’re happiest when spending time with their people. Exceptionally loyal and wonderfully social, they make friends with everyone — from strangers to small children and other pets.

Blending the intelligence of the Siberian Husky with the charm of the Pomeranian, our Pomskies are quick to learn, eager to please, and easily adapt to the rhythm of a busy family life. Whether you’re after a spirited playmate or a devoted companion, a Pomsky could be the perfect addition to your home.

The Origin

The Pomsky’s story began in South Eastern America in 2012. The idea for this adorable crossbreed first sparked in 2011, when a photo of a Finnish Lapphund puppy went viral in a BuzzFeed article titled “Pomskies – the Pomeranian + Siberian Husky Mix: the cutest designer dog breed ever?” The photo captured hearts worldwide and inspired a handful of dedicated breeders to bring the concept to life.

In 2012, the first true Pomsky puppies were born, blending the Siberian Husky’s intelligence with the Pomeranian’s charm. Since then, the Pomsky has quickly risen in popularity across Australia and around the globe — loved for their smart, affectionate nature, and delightfully big personalities.

Personality

Pomsky Nature and Temperament

Pomskies are known for their cheerful disposition, unwavering loyalty, and sweet nature. Our puppies embody these traits, making them affectionate and devoted family companions. Highly intelligent and eager to please, they are a joy to train. Their playful spirit and love for human interaction make them wonderful pets, especially for first-time dog owners or families with young children.

While they thrive in a family setting, they’re just as content as loyal companions to individuals. Your Pomsky will love being part of your daily life whether you’re out for a stroll, running errands, or relaxing at home. Wherever you go, they’ll want to be by your side, making them a truly cherished member of the family.

Pomsky Coat & Grooming

One of the Pomsky’s most striking features is their luxurious coat — a beautiful blend of the fluffy Pomeranian and the thick, double-coated Siberian Husky. Their coat not only turns heads but also reflects their unique heritage and playful personality.

Pomskies have a double coat, made up of a soft undercoat and a protective topcoat. They can exhibit three main coat types: Standard, Plush, and Woolly. Despite their dense fur, Pomskies are relatively easy to care for with regular grooming.

Standard Coat

  • Length: 2.5 cm or less
  • Features: Shorter, sleek, and easy to manage
  • Grooming: Brush once a week
  • Best for: Low-maintenance owners

Plush Coat

  • Length: 2.5 – 6.5 cm
  • Features: Fluffier texture, with longer hairs on
  • the tail, ears, head, and legs
  • Grooming: Brush 1–2 times a week
  • Best for: Those who love that teddy bear look

Wooly Coat

  • Length: 7.5 cm or more
  • Features: Extra-long, soft, thick, and luxuriously fluffy
  • Grooming: Brush 2–3 times a week + hygiene trim every 3–4 months
  • Best for: Owners who enjoy regular grooming and pampering

Shedding

Pomskies naturally shed twice a year — once to shed their thick winter coat and again for their lighter summer coat. This seasonal shedding helps them regulate body temperature. Outside of these periods, shedding is minimal, making Pomskies relatively low-maintenance with consistent grooming.

Bathing

Pomsky coats are naturally clean and don’t carry the typical “doggy” odour. Bathing is generally only required every four to six weeks, depending on your dog’s lifestyle. Frequent bathing can strip essential oils, drying out the coat and causing itchy skin. With regular brushing and occasional baths, your Pomsky’s coat will stay soft and healthy.

Pomsky Colours & Eye Variations

Pomskies are renowned for their stunning array of coat colours and distinctive eye patterns, a delightful blend of their Siberian Husky, Pomeranian, and Spitz heritage. Each litter can produce a unique combination of colours and markings, making every Pomsky truly one-of-a-kind.

Breed Stabilisation

Over the past ten years, we have worked diligently to develop a uniform and recognisable Pomsky breed.

Like other designer breeds, we have introduced additional breeds to stabilise desirable traits and establish a breed standard.

Initially, we crossed Siberian Huskies with Pomeranians. While this produced lovely puppies, there was considerable variation in size, coat type, and appearance. To refine the breed and reduce undesirable traits from this first cross, we have infused other Spitz-family breeds—such as Alaskan Klee Kai, American Eskimo Dogs, or other small Spitz breeds—into our breeding lines.

This strategic infusion stabilises the breed, producing consistent puppies with well-proportioned features, more desirable coats, and the playful, affectionate temperament that Cherry Snow Pomsky owners love.

Cherry Snow Pomsky’s reserves the right to adjust the stabilising breed as needed to continue improving our Pomsky line.

Pomksy Sizes

As a hybrid cross between two different breeds, Pomskies can vary in size but are generally considered a small sized dog breed. They are typically categorised into three main sizes:

Cherry Snow Pomskies breed all three size categories, offering a variety of options to suit your lifestyle.

Health and Life Expectancy

Pomsky Health

With a sound genetic lineage, Pomskies are a healthy and robust breed, with a typical life expectancy of 12–15 years. We pride ourselves on producing puppies that are happy, healthy, and free from genetic health problems.

All dogs in our breeding program undergo extensive genetic testing through Orivet to ensure they are clear of any breed-specific, inheritable diseases. Additionally, every breeding dog is regularly examined by our veterinary specialist to maintain optimal health.

Before leaving our care at eight weeks of age, every puppy receives a full veterinary check, including an examination of their structure, bones, eyes, heart, teeth, ears, and skin. This ensures that each puppy is healthy, well-checked, and ready for their new home.

Exercise Guidelines for Pomskies

Puppies
(0–12 months)

Daily Exercise

15–20 minute leash walk

Important

Avoid over-exercising young puppies – too much activity can damage their developing skeleton.

Risks of Over-exercise

  • Early onset of luxating patella
  • Hip and elbow dysplasia

Avoid

  • Jogging or cycling with your puppy
  • Climbing stairs or jumping onto furniture

Adult Pomskies

Daily Exercise

Moderate level, about 30–60 minutes

Activities Include

  • Walks
  • Backyard play
  • Swimming
  • Trips to the dog park

Practical Advice for Exercise

  • Pomskies are less active than Huskies, but they enjoy joining family outings and activities.
  • Consistent, moderate exercise helps your Pomsky stay healthy, happy, and well-behaved.
  • Always observe your dog’s energy levels and adjust activity as required.
