One of the Pomsky’s most striking features is their luxurious coat — a beautiful blend of the fluffy Pomeranian and the thick, double-coated Siberian Husky. Their coat not only turns heads but also reflects their unique heritage and playful personality.
Pomskies have a double coat, made up of a soft undercoat and a protective topcoat. They can exhibit three main coat types: Standard, Plush, and Woolly. Despite their dense fur, Pomskies are relatively easy to care for with regular grooming.
Standard Coat
- Length: 2.5 cm or less
- Features: Shorter, sleek, and easy to manage
- Grooming: Brush once a week
- Best for: Low-maintenance owners
Plush Coat
- Length: 2.5 – 6.5 cm
- Features: Fluffier texture, with longer hairs on
- the tail, ears, head, and legs
- Grooming: Brush 1–2 times a week
- Best for: Those who love that teddy bear look
Wooly Coat
- Length: 7.5 cm or more
- Features: Extra-long, soft, thick, and luxuriously fluffy
- Grooming: Brush 2–3 times a week + hygiene trim every 3–4 months
- Best for: Owners who enjoy regular grooming and pampering
Shedding
Pomskies naturally shed twice a year — once to shed their thick winter coat and again for their lighter summer coat. This seasonal shedding helps them regulate body temperature. Outside of these periods, shedding is minimal, making Pomskies relatively low-maintenance with consistent grooming.
Bathing
Pomsky coats are naturally clean and don’t carry the typical “doggy” odour. Bathing is generally only required every four to six weeks, depending on your dog’s lifestyle. Frequent bathing can strip essential oils, drying out the coat and causing itchy skin. With regular brushing and occasional baths, your Pomsky’s coat will stay soft and healthy.
